About our Client

Our client, an engineering agency, manages multiple data sources related to their internal operations, project management, and workload tracking. The agency had been storing and utilizing this data over the course of several years. However, the data was spread across three separate systems—creating silos that hindered efficient data analysis and reporting.

Challenge

The agency faced significant challenges with data management due to its decentralized data architecture. Though the data was related, because it was scattered across different systems, it was impossible to generate unified reports or glean meaningful insights from the data. The client’s primary goal was to consolidate this data into a single environment that would allow them to efficiently track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), create dashboards, and analyze workload metrics in real time.

Our Solution

Apption, leveraging its expertise in Databricks and Azure deployments, developed a comprehensive strategy to consolidate our client’s data and improve analytics capabilities. Our approach included:

  • Databricks Workspace Creation: We set up a Databricks environment capable of connecting to the client’s multiple data sources and importing them into Hive tables. This consolidated all the data in one place, laying the groundwork for efficient analysis.

  • Data Cleaning & Structuring: We cleaned and transformed the imported data into well-organized tables, making it ready for consumption. This included resolving discrepancies and ensuring uniformity across the data sources.

  • Power BI Integration: We connected Power BI to the Hive tables, enabling the recreation of existing dashboards and KPIs in a unified platform. Additionally, we facilitated the development of new dashboards by identifying relationships between the data sources that were previously obscured.

  • Advanced Analytics & Visualization: The integration allowed our client to generate insightful analytics on workload distribution, outstanding projects, and overall performance metrics. This provided a clear and real-time view of their operations.

Outcome

By consolidating their data into a single Databricks environment and connecting it to Power BI, our client now enjoys a streamlined data management process. The result was:
